Ozone layer:

1. The ozone layer or ozone shield is a region of the Earth's stratosphere that absorbs most of the Sun's Ultraviolet (UV) radiation, which can penetrate organisms' protective layers, such as skin, as well as damaging DNA molecules in plants and animals.
2. Although ozone can be found in tiny concentrations in other parts of the atmosphere, the majority (about 90%) of it is found in the stratosphere, a layer 10 to 50 kilometres above the Earth's surface that filters off the majority of the sun's harmful UV rays.
