Organic Chemistry is one of the most important and scoring subjects in NEET. But, most of the students find it hard to study organic chemistry. Therefore, in this article, we shall explain how to prepare for organic chemistry and secure good marks in NEET.
- Focus on understanding the concepts
While it can be beneficial to memorise some nomenclature terms and functional groups, it is not advisable to memorise everything. Without understanding the concepts at a deeper level, it is not possible to study organic chemistry and score good marks. Watch any online tutorial videos or free Youtube videos of a complicated concept to understand them better.
- Start from the basics
11th and 12th standard NCERT books are extremely important for your NEET preparation. Make sure you have gone through these books thoroughly before referring to other books. NCERT books provide a strong foundation which helps you to understand NEET level questions.
- Practise reactions
Understand the mechanism behind every reaction and try to write it down in your words. Practise the reaction every day to get a hold of it. Maintain a separate notebook for only the formulas and reactions. Revise it whenever you get free time.
- Focus more on chapters carrying more weightage
More questions on chapters such as Aromatic compounds, Hydrocarbons, Aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acid, organic compounds with nitrogen, etc. will be asked in NEET. Many educational NEET focused platforms release the subject weightage distribution analysis on their website every year. Refer to at least 5 such websites and take an average of the last 5-year trend. Then, you can easily predict how many questions will be asked from a particular chapter in the current year.
- Refer to the best books
Below mentioned are some of the best books for organic chemistry preparation
- NCERT books
- Organic Chemistry by O.P. Tandon
- Organic Chemistry by Morrison and Boyd (For reaction mechanisms)
