At the annual convocation ceremony 2022, IIT Bombay awarded 449 Ph.D. degrees becoming the first national institute to do so. In the ceremony, over 2552 degrees were awarded to different undergraduates, postgraduates, and doctorates. Along with all this, over four candidates received gold medals for their outstanding academic records.
The breakdown of degrees in numbers are: PhD ( 206 ), MTech/ MPhil and PhD ( 34 ), MSc and PhD dual degrees( 24 ), MS ( 3 ), MTech( 700 ), MDes( 53 ), BDes and MDes dual degrees (14 ),MPhil ( 23 ), MBA(115 ), E-MBA( 1 ), MPP( 17 ), MSc-2 years ( 204 ), BTech and MTech dual degree ( 326 ), BTech( 654 ), BTech/ BS and MTech/ MSc Interdisciplinary Dual Degrees ( 50 ), Integrated MSc-5 years( 6 ), BS and MSc( 6 ),BS ( 48 ), BDes( 14 ), and PDGIIT( 24 ).
Mr. Kumar Mangalam Birla, the chairman of the Aditya Birla Group was the chief guest at the ceremony. This was IIT Bombay’s diamond jubilee convocation. Previously the highest total number of Ph.D. degrees awarded per year was 181 in the 2011-12 session.
