The IISC Bangalore and CELLINK will jointly be conducting workshops to upgrade the skillsets of researchers on 3D bioprinting.
In order to provide researchers with the required skillsets to utilise 3D bioprinting, IISC Bangalore and 3D bioprinting firm CELLINK have joined hands. Both will jointly establish a Centre of Excellence (CoE), whose primary focus area would be advancing research on cancer, bone, heart, and cartilage using Bioprinting.
The CoE will be set up in the Centre for BioSystems Science and Engineering (BSSE) in Bangalore. It will be the first of its kind in India. The researchers will be able to work around certain critical applications after getting access to various kinds of 3D bioprinting systems.
On 18 August 2022, an MoU was signed to make the collaboration official.CELLINK will be providing the latest 3D Bioprinters and will also provide training and research initiatives in the field of Bioprinting. Professor Govindan Rangarajan, director of the IISC Bangalore was quoted as saying that the CoE establishment will align with the initiative to develop post-graduation courses in the field of Medical Sciences at the university.
Various workshops will be conducted for researchers on a regular basis where experts from CELLINK and IISC Bangalore will be present. These workshops will be helpful in providing necessary skills to the researchers to utilize 3D Bioprinting in their research works. Along with all this, various research projects will be taken up in the field of drug discovery, tissue engineering, regenerative/personalised medicine, and material science.
3D bioprinting utilizes a range of biomaterials and bioprinting techniques to generate 3D models. It will be helpful in printing organ and tissue models, which will be helpful for researchers in researching drugs and finding potential treatments.
