The high court of Karnataka, while hearing the petition of candidates regarding the KCET rank preparation process has proposed that 75% KCET score and 25% PUC marks be considered for rank preparation.
The petition by the KCET 2022 appeared candidates regarding the rank list prepared by the Karnataka Examination Authority(KEA) for the Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET) has been going on. The Karnataka High Court however has proposed to the Karnataka Government that 75% of marks of the KCET 2022 exam and 25% of marks of the PUC exam be considered for the KCET rank list preparation for the repeater candidates.
The candidates have been petitioning since the rank list of the KCET 2022 exam was published by the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA). Candidates were dissatisfied with their ranks. Citing the decision to not include PUC marks in the merit list preparation leading to their drop in ranks drastically, they approached the court to challenge the KEA decision.
The KEA decision to not consider the PUC marks was based on the grounds that 2021 passed-out candidates were being passed on the basis of their internal assessment marks and marks in their term exams. While the current 2022 passed-out candidates have obtained their PUC marks by giving their final exams. The KEA explained to the protesting candidates that it would be unfair to consider PUC marks for the repeater candidates. But still, the candidates were not happy with the justification provided by the KEA.
On 8 August 2022, the High Court of Karnataka directed KEA to start counseling and document verification process after the verdict of the repeater candidates' petition.
The KCET 2022 exam was conducted by the KEA for the admissions of Karnataka candidates and Kashmiri migrants into various undergraduate programs in colleges, institutions, and universities across Karnataka.
The admissions are going on for the first Semester of Engineering, Bachelor of Yoga and Naturopathy (BNYS), Architecture, Animal Husbandry (B.V.Sc. & A.H.), and Bachelor of Veterinary Science, Farm Science courses, B. Pharma, Pharm-D, and lateral entry into 3rd-semester B-Pharma courses.
