NEET UG PG Counselling 2022; OCI/PIO/Foreign nationals only eligible for NRI seats

In its latest notice, the medical counselling committee(MCC) has issued an important direction to all undergraduate and postgraduate institutions participating in the 2022 medical counselling process. MCC has notified that the candidates belonging to the category OCI/PIO/Foreign Nationals will only be eligible to take admissions in the NRI seats of institutes, they will not be eligible for Indian (All India Quota/ Central/ Deemed Paid/ Indian) seats.

Candidates can visit the official website of MCC, mcc.nic.in to view the official notice. The decision was made in view of the Gazette Notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs dated 4 March 2021.

The gazetted notification stated that: “(4) parity with Non-Resident Indians in the matter of- (ii) appearing for the all India entrance tests such as National Eligibility cum Entrance Test, Joint Entrance Examination (Mains), Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced) or such other tests to make them eligible for admission only against any Non-Resident Indian seat or any supernumerary seat: Provided that the OCI cardholder shall not be eligible for admission against any seat reserved exclusively for Indian citizens.”

The above statement means that an OCI Cardholder (including a PsIO cardholder) will be considered a foreign national who is having a passport of a foreign country and will not be considered a citizen of India.

When the candidates report to their respective allotted institutions, the institution will only verify the citizenship card of OCI/ PIO/ Foreign National candidates for admission into NRI seats.

The NRI-sponsored candidates are eligible to take admissions into Indian (All India Quota/ Central/ Deemed Paid/ Indian) seats as well as in NRI seats.
