The National Medical Commission (NMC) has released the new guidelines and calendar for the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery, MBBS batch 2022-23. The vacation dates and exam schedule are provisional.

MBBS 2022-23: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued new guidelines for Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery, and MBBS batches 2022–23. Along with this, the medical commission has also issued the calendar for the MBBS academic year 2022-2023.

As per the information mentioned in the MBBS academic year 2022–23 calendar, the students who are currently enrolled in first year will have to learn subjects in anatomy, physiology, and biochemistry for a duration of 13 months. It will start on November 15, 2022 and will continue till December 15, 2023. Students in their second professional year will learn about pathology, microbiology, and pharmacology. The course will be completed in a span of 13 months, which will start on December 16, 2023 and end on January 15, 2025.

The third year has been divided into two parts. In part one of the third year, students will be studying forensic medicine and toxicology and community medicine, or PSM, which will be taught for a span of 10.5 months. The second part will run for a span of 17.5 months, in which students will be taught subjects including general surgery, general medicine, pediatrics, gynecology, ENT, and ophthalmology. It will start in December 2025 and end in May 2027.

The last part of the MBBS course is a 12-month internship, which will start on June 1, 2027 and end on May 31, 2028. As informed, the postgraduate courses will start on July 1, 2028, for those students who wish to apply for PG courses.

What are the new MBBS batch 2022–23 guidelines released by the NMC?

  1. The notifications for exams and the schedule for vacation are provisional and subjected to changes. They will be arranged on the basis of the schedules of the affiliated colleges.
  2. Talking about the electives, the guidelines state that two blocks of 15-day duration will be adjusted in the respective colleges for the pre-and/or paraclinical branches and clinical branches.
  3. The supplementary examinations will be conducted 1 month after the conclusion of the regular exams. The results should be declared in the record period of 15 days.
  4. No supplementary batches will be taken.
  5. All the remaining guidelines are in line with the Graduate Medical Education Regulations (GMER) 1997, and must be followed.
