NEET, JEE, CUET merger: During a session with the students of a private coaching institute located in Kota, Rajasthan, Union Education Minister Dharmenda Pradhan announced that the merger of India’s 3 most competitive examinations is not likely to happen for at least next 2 years.
He acknowledged that the government is aware of the Union Grant Commission’s new plan, i.e., “One nation, One Exam, engineering and medical entrance exam merger” and stated the government has yet not come to a conclusion on whether the plan will be a practical move or not.
He said that the idea to merge the three exams has not been put into a formal proposal as of yet. The government won’t take any action before noticing the candidates priorly. It will take time for the government to come to a final decision. No combined test will be imposed on students who are currently studying in class XII and class XI.
In August, UGC chairperson Prof M Jagadesh Kumar, announced that the commission is planning to merge engineering and medical entrance exams, in order to ease the burden of the students who want to pursue higher education in different disciplines.
