The objective of the Geo Genius Olympiad exam is to encourage students’ interest in geographical and environmental topics, to explore, inspire, and develop young talents, and to encourage activities that broaden geographical knowledge. The IBGB Learning Society, which organises the Geo Genius Olympiad, has also come a long way since its inception in 2009 as an initiative to show that geography can be entertaining and enlightening.

Many of us enjoy watching TV shows like National Geographic, Lonely Planet, and Discovery. In 2010, a group of Indian geographers organised an Olympiad for Indian school kids who were interested in geography. To begin with, 1000 children participated, which was more than the small educational group had anticipated. The following year, 3000 children took part. And last year, approximately thousands of Indian children from hundreds of schools took part.
