Students in Classes 11 and 12 compete in the Indian National Biology Olympiad (INBO). It is a national-level test and the second stage of the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education’s (HBCSE) Biology Olympiad Programme. It is held in over 15 locations across India, and it attracts a significant number of students each year.

HBCSE follows the Association of Teachers in Biological Sciences and the Indian Association of Physics Teachers in conducting the Indian National Biology Olympiad (INBO). INBO 2022-23, on the other hand, is expected to start in January 2022. Candidates can check the HBCSE’s official website for updates on INBO exam dates.

INBO Exam Pattern
The new exam structure will consolidate the INBO/first IOQA’s two phases into a single stage known as the Indian National Olympiad (IOQA).
According to the IAPT, each exam will consist of a single examination with two parts that will be taken in one sitting.

INBO Eligibility Requirements
Candidates who wish to take the INBO 2022-23 exam must meet the following eligibility requirements. Otherwise, they will be automatically exempted from the exam.
- They must be an Indian citizen with proof of citizenship.
- They should be attending an Indian school.
- They must be in Class 12 and have completed the National Standard Examination in Biology (NSEB).
- Students in Class 11 will be considered eligible if they pass the NSEB exam with the required cutoffs.
How to Register for the INBO Exam
- A student can enrol in INBO at their school if it is a recognised INBO centre. The principal would be the point of contact in this case.
- Even if a student’s school is not an INBO registered centre, they can still participate in INBO by registering at a nearby centre. A list of registration centres will be available on the IAPT website.
- The in-charge INBO registration centre would be paid Rs. 150 per student for each topic.
- Students registering from states other than their schools must email iapt.nse@gmail.com a scanned copy of their INBO admittance card and their school ID, or they will be refused.
