The Indian National Biology Olympiad (INBO) is a competition for students in Classes 11 and 12. It is a national level test and the second stage of the Biology Olympiad Programme of the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE). It is hosted in around 15 cities across India and draws many students.

To compete in the International Biology Olympiad, students in Class 11 and 12 compete in the Indian National Biology Olympiad (INBO). INBO is a CBSE biology exam that begins in Classes 11 and 12 and comprises fundamental questions on the subject. However, we must be familiar with the recent INBO exam pattern and syllabus before applying for the upcoming INBO examination 2022.
Exam Details
All students must pass the National Standard Examination for Biology (NSEB) in order to be eligible for the INBO exam. NSEB 2021-2022 candidates must have been born after July 1, 2002, and be in Class XII or lower as of November 30, 2020. The examination timetable allows students to take numerous subjects. Details can be found on the subject pages. Students who have finished Class XII are not eligible to apply to NSEB.
- Candidates who do not pass the NSEB exam are automatically exempted from INBO.
- According to past INBO exam papers, there are 100 points and two sections: Section A and Section B. Section A has 30 questions worth 1 mark each, and section B has 22 questions worth 50 points. Each incorrect answer is given a negative score.
- This will be a 3-hour exam with two parts: Part 1 (National Standard Examination for Biology) and Part 2 (National Standard Examination for Chemistry) . Below-given is more detailed information on the examinations.
Part I: National Standard Examination in Biology
The National Standard Examination in Biology (NSEB) is a biology examination for higher secondary students in India. It normally takes place at the end of November. The test is being organised by the Association of Teachers in Biological Sciences in collaboration with the Indian Association of Physics Teachers and the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE). This will be a one-hour examination with multiple-choice questions based on Class 10+2 biology and following the NSEB examination format.
Part II: Indian National Biology Olympiad
This exam lasts two hours and features extensive questions that follow the same INBO criteria as in prior years. Candidates who pass the first part will be considered for this phase. The individual score of this part will be used to determine who moves to the next phase, Orientation and Selection Camp.
