InPhO Exam Pattern 2022

The Indian National Physics Olympiad (InPhO) is the second stage of five stages in India’s Physics Olympiad programme. From this exam, students are shortlisted for the International Physics Olympiad. This exam is necessary for secondary students who wish to broaden their understanding of physics. The InPhO is a competitive exam that serves as a benchmark for pre-university physics students while also encouraging participants on an international platform. Highlights of the Exam

The INPhO exam is organised by the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education and is held annually on the last Sunday of January or the first Sunday of February for students in the upper secondary level. Students in grades 11 and 12 should first take the NSEP exam to qualify for the INPhO exam. The student must achieve a score greater than 50% of the top ten. This is the lowest possible score that will be accepted in the exam, and it is referred to as the Minimum Acceptable Scores (MAS). An applicant will be considered for INPhO if they obtain a score of more than 80% on the above-mentioned average.

  • The INPhO test consists of two parts.
  • The first level includes 50 multiple-choice questions that must be answered in one hour.
  • Students are given a rough sheet for rough work. The second level consists of 5 or 6 questions.

  • This is followed by an hour in which students are expected to write their answers on the sheets distributed during this time.
  • Good preparation in physics is required before taking the exam to answer all questions in both stages of the INPhO exam.

How are the students qualified for InPhO?
