The IOAA’s major purpose is to foster a rising interest in astronomy and associated STEM fields among young people, particularly through general education, and to strengthen worldwide collaboration in promoting astronomy and astrophysics in schools. Owing to events like the IOAA, more brilliant high-school students are likely to be enthusiastic about studying astronomy at the university level, as part of the future generation of astronomy and astrophysics specialists.
