The International Science Olympiad programme begins with the Indian Olympiad Qualifier in Junior Science or IOQJS. It is a three-hour test consisting of two papers that are normally held in January. The Indian National Olympiad (INO) and the National Standard Examination (NSE) are combined in the IOQJS, which the IAPT and the HBCSE conduct as an association of two competitive examinations (NSE).

The IAPT administrators have issued the IOQJS exam pattern for this year. There are two papers in the Indian Olympiad Qualifier in Junior Science or IOQJS. The exam will last three hours. The Indian Olympiad Qualifier in Junior Science is held by the Indian Association of Physics Teachers in partnership with the Homi Bhabha Center for Science Education for secondary school students. We will discuss more on the IOQJS Exam Pattern here.

IOQJS Part 1
Part I of the IOQJS is a replacement for the National Standard Examination in Junior Science. This segment will last one hour. This section is governed by the Indian Association of Physics Teachers (IAPT). The IOQJS Part I question paper is quite comparable with the NSEJS in terms of difficulty. The paper is made up of objective questions that have one or more correct answers. Students who achieve the cut-off marks in IOQJS Part I are eligible for the IOQJS Part II evaluation. This part of the test has no influence on whether or not they are selected for the Orientation/Selection Camp.
IOQJS Part 2
The Indian National Olympiad is replaced by this section of the test. The Homi Bhabha Center for Science Education is in charge of it. Only subjective questions appear in the IOQJS Part II question paper. Students will have two hours to complete all of the questions in IOQJS Part II. Those who meet the IOQJS Part I cut-off points will be assessed for the IOQJS Part II. The results of this section will decide whether students are eligible for the Orientation-cum-Selection Camp.
Importance of IOQJS Exam
The test is one of our country’s most prominent competitive exams, evaluating students’ intelligence and understanding of secondary school science topics. Candidates who meet the criteria will be chosen for Orientation and Selection Camps (OCSC). At the OCSC level, around 35 to 40 applicants are chosen. The pre-departure camp is the next stage up from the OCSC. For this stage, about 4 or 6 individuals are chosen.
The applicants are prepared for the final stage of the Olympiad at the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education, where subject specialists and mentors from all around the country instruct them. A few mentors accompany the candidates from the pre-departure camp during the International Olympiad’s final stage.
