Q1: What is the full form of Pre-RMO?

Answer: Pre – Regional Mathematical Olympiad

Q2: Who is in charge of the mathematical olympiad activity of India?

Answer: The National Board for Higher Mathematics (NBHM) is in charge of the mathematical olympiad activity for the country.

Q3: Who conducts PRMO?

Answer: PRMO is conducted by the  Mathematics Teachers’ Association (MTA) in India.

Q4: Which is the website for PRMO? 

Answer. The website for PRMO available is http://www.mtai.org.in/prmo 

Q5. Who is eligible to participate in PRMO?

Answer. Only Indian citizens are allowed to apply for the examination. All the students studying in Class VIII to Class XII are eligible to apply for PRMO. The candidates must be born on or after August 1, 2001. 

Q6. What is the PRMO examination duration? 

Answer:  The examination is conducted for a duration of 3 hours. There are 30 questions asked in the examination. 

Q7. What is the syllabus for the PRMO exam? 

Answer. The syllabus is broadly based on these four topics: Plane Geometry, Algebra, Combinatorics and Number Theory. 

Q8. Are Sample Question Papers available for PRMO? 

Answer. Sample question papers with answer sheets can be downloaded from http://olympiads.hbcse.tifr.res.in/how-to-prepare/past-papers/.

Q9: Can my school register as a “Registration Centre”?

Answer. Schools can register as “registration centres” for PRMO at this link: https://mtaexam.com.  

Q10. What is the exam fee for PRMO?

Answer. For the PRMO online registration 2021, students have to pay a fee of Rs. 230 to the registration centre.

Q11. When is the PRMO exam portal open for school registration?

Answer. The PRMO exam portal will be open from June 1 to June 30 for centre registration. 

Q12. Are open school students eligible to write the PRMO exam? 

Answer. Open school students can register directly in the examination portal. Such registration will be provisional and subject to verification. All other students should register through the registration centres.

Q13. Can Kendriya Vidyalayas and Jawahar Navodya Vidyalayas register students from other schools?

Answer. Yes, they can register students from other schools. 

Q14. When is the PRMO examination held?

Answer. The PRMO examination is generally held in the 2nd week of August. 

Q15. Can the student have the carbon copy of the OMR sheet after the exam? 

Answer. A carbon copy of the OMR sheet is provided to the students. The students must keep the copy till the conclusion of the Mathematical Olympiad Programme for the particular year. This is used for verification purposes at various stages of the programme.

Q16. When will the results of the PRMO examination be announced? 

Answer. It is generally announced in the month of September. 

Q17. How many students are selected for the next round of examination from each region?

Answer: The top 300 students from Class VIII to Class XI and top 60 students from Class XII are selected from each region. Around 5% of students are selected from the KV and JNV from Class VIII to Class XI  and 1% from Class XII.
