Electric Circuit Questions

An electronic circuit is an essential part of the device. It features many components connected together to inform the network. The electric circuits are closed-loops or paths which form a network of electrical components through which electrons flow. The flow of electrons through a circuit is known as electrical current and is measured in amperes. The path of the circuit is made using electrical wires and is powered by a source, like a battery.

An electric circuit features a device that provides energy to the charged particles constituting the current, such as a battery or a generator. A simple circuit comprises the power source, conductors, switch, and load. Following are some of the components of a simple electric circuit.

  • Cell: It is the power source of the circuit.
  • Load: Load is also termed as the resistor. It is a light bulb that lights when the circuit is turned on.
  • Conductors: They are made of copper wires with no insulation. One end of the wire connects the load to the power source and the other end of the wire connects the power source back to the load.
  • Switch: It is a small gap in the circuit. A switch can be used to open-switch or close a circuit.

The performance of the electric circuit is found using Ohm’s law and Kirchhoffโ€™s Law. The network of transistors, transformers, capacitors, connecting wires, and other electronic components within a single device such as a radio is also an electric circuit. Electric circuits feature both active and passive components. Complex circuits are composed of one or more branches in combinations of series and series-parallel arrangements.

An electronic circuit can usually be categorized as an analog circuit, a digital circuit, or a mixed-signal circuit. Analog circuit is constructed from two fundamental building blocks: series and parallel circuits. In a parallel circuit, all the components are connected to the same voltage, and the current divide between the various components according to their resistance.

Conventional current flows from positive to negative terminal. The flow of electric current results in a potential drop across the various elements.

Important Electric Circuit Questions with Answers

1. What is a direct-current circuit?

A direct-current circuit carries current in only one direction. A direct current circuit is an electrical circuit that consists of any combination of constant voltage sources, constant current sources, and resistors.

  4. Plankโ€™s law

Answer: c) Ohmโ€™s law

3. Voltage is given by the formula โ€”——-

  1. V=I+R
  2. V=I/R
  3. V=I-R
  4. V=I*R

Answer: d) V=I*R

Explanation: Voltage is found using Ohmโ€™s law and is given by the formula: V=IR

4. What are the types of switches?

There are two types of switches, they are:

  1. Electrical switches
  2. Mechanical switches

5. State true or false: A switch can be used only to open the circuit and cannot be used to close a circuit.

  1. TRUE
  2. FALSE

Answer: b) FALSE

Explanation: A switch can be used to open or close an electric circuit.

6. The start of the point from where the electrons start flowing is called โ€”————.

  1. Conductor
  2. Insulator
  3. Source
  4. Electrical tape

Answer: c) Source

7. Define a series-parallel circuit.

The circuit in which some of the elements are connected in series and other elements are connected in parallel is known as a series-parallel circuit.

8. A string of Christmas lights is an example of โ€”———-

  1. Series circuit
  2. Parallel circuit
  3. Combination circuit
  4. None of the option

Answer: Series circuit

Example: In a series circuit, the same current passes through the components connected in series. A string of Christmas lights is an example of a series of circuits.
