  1. When some metals are exposed to moisture, air, acids etc., they tarnish due to the formation of respective oxide on their surface. This process is called corrosion.

  2. Iron corrodes readily when exposed to moisture and gets covered with a brown flaky substance called rust. This is also called rusting of iron. Chemically, rust is hydrated iron (III) oxide, Fe2O3.xH2O.
