Question

3x2 – 10x + 8 = 0

Open in App
Solution

Given: 3x2 – 10x + 8 = 0

On splitting the middle term –10x as –6x – 4x, we get:

3x2 – 6x – 4x + 8 = 0

3x(x – 2) – 4(x – 2) = 0

(x – 2) (3x – 4)= 0

We know that if the product of two numbers is zero, then at least one of them must be zero.

Thus,

x – 2 = 0 or 3x – 4 = 0
x = 2 or x = 43
Therefore, the solution of the given equation is x = 2, 43.
