4 Students a, b, c and d in a group take 6 metre long slinky and produce a longitudinal wave they observe that in 10 seconds 4 waves are completed. On this observation what is the speed of wave in slinky.


Solution

Since the wave is produced on the string, length of each to or fro is 6 m.

And, we have 4 to and 4 fro and hence total of 8 to or fro.

So, distance traveled by these 8 to/fro is = 8 × 6 = 48 m

Time taken is = 10 s

So, speed = 48/10 = 4.8 m/s
