Solution

Let p(x) = x 3 +10x 2 + ax + b be the given polynomial. If (x 1) and (x + 2) are factor of p(x), than p(1) = 0 and p(-2) = 0 Take, p(1) = 0 (1)3 +10(1)2 + a(1) + b = 0 1 + 10 + a + b = 0 a + b = -11 ....... (1) Now, take p(-2) = 0 (-2)3 +10(-2)2 + a(-2) + b = 0 -8 + 40 -2 a + b = 0 -2a + b = -32 ....... (2) Subtract (1) from (2), we get-2a + b- a - b = -32+11-3a=-21a=7Put the value of a in (1), we getb=-11-7b=-18
