Since the ladder forms a right angle with wall while lean on the wall,

So, by Pythagoras theorem
$12^{2} + a^{2} = 15^{2}$

$a^{2} = 225 - 144$

$a^{2} = 81$

$a = 9$

The distance of the ladder from the wall is $9 m$ .
