The correct option is A $9$
Total investment by A= $500 + 1500 = 2000$
Yearly return =8.5 % of 2000
$\Rightarrow \frac{8.5}{100} \times 2000 = 170$
Yearly return of 500=7% of 500
$\Rightarrow \frac{7}{100} \times 500 = 35$
Let yearly return of 1500 is x
Yearly return=x% of 1500
$\Rightarrow \frac{x}{100} \times 1500 = 15 x$
Then according to the question
$\Rightarrow 35 + 15 x = 170$
$\Rightarrow 15 x = 170 - 35$
$\Rightarrow 15 x = 135$
$\Rightarrow x = \frac{135}{15} = 9$
