Question

A balloon blown with 1 mol of a gas, has a volume of 480 ml at 5C. If the balloon is filled to 78 th of its maximum capacity, then which of the following is/ are correct?

  1. The balloon will burst at 30C

  2. The pressure of the gas inside the balloon at 5C is 47.5 atm

  3. The minimum temperature at which the balloon will burst is 47.71C

  4. The pressure of gas when balloon burst at minimum temperature is 50 atm.

Solution

The correct options are
B

The pressure of the gas inside the balloon at 5C is 47.5 atm

C

The minimum temperature at which the balloon will burst is 47.71C

Max capacity of balloon =87×480=548.57 ml

Also, V1=480 ml, T1=278K, n=1 mol

V1T1=V2T2

480278=548.57T2

T2=317.71K=44.71C

From PV=nRT

P×4801000=1×0.0821×278

P=47.5 atm
