A blue solid ‘X’ was dissolved in water and the solution was divided into two portions. When a few drops of sodium hydroxide were added to the 1st portion, a blue gelatinous precipitate was formed.
When a few drops of dilute nitric acid, followed by a few drops of barium nitrate solution were added to the 2nd portion, a white precipitate was formed. From these observations deduce the identity of substance.

The correct option is A
When copper sulphate reacts with sodium hydroxide, it leads to the creation of Cu(OH)2 which is blue gelatinous precipitate. In the other half, Ba reacts with CuSO4 to form BaSO4 which separates out as a white precipitate.
