Question

A car is moving with a velocity $$ 20 \  m s^{-1}$$. The brakes are applied to retard it at a rate of $$2\ m s^{-2}$$. What will be the velocity after $$5 s$$ of applying the brakes?

A
30ms1
loader
B
2.5ms1
loader
C
5ms1
loader
D
10ms1
loader

Solution

The correct option is D $$10 m s^{-1}$$
Acceleration, $$a = \dfrac{v_{final}-v_{initial}}{Time} $$
Therefore, $$ -2 m/s^2 = \dfrac{v_{final}-20 m/s}{5 s} $$
$$ v_{final} = 10 m/s $$
