Question

A child starting in a coastal region tests the drinking water and also the sea with his tester. He finds that the compass needle deflects more in the case of sea water. Can you explain the reason ?

As the current is passed through sea water the sea water acts as a very good conductor for electricity so the current flows freely through the conducting wire which is winded around the magnetic compass. As the result of electric current flow through the electric conductor coil the magnetic field a is induced around the coil. This results the deflection in the magnetic compass.
