Solution

Molecular formula of the compound = X4O6
10 grams of X4O6 contains 5.72 grams of X.
Percentage of X in given molecule = (5.72*100)/10
Percentage of X = 57.2 %
Percentage of Oxygen = 100- Percentage of X
= 100- 57.2
= 42.8%
Gram molecular weight 6 atoms of Oxygen (O6) = 6*16 = 96 grams
42.8% of Oxygen has a mass of 96 grams.
Then 57.2 % of X will have a mass of = (57.2*96)/42.8
= 128.29 grams
4 atoms of X has a mass = 128.29 grams
1 atom of X will have a mass = (128.29)/4
= 32.075
Gram atomic mass of X = 32.075 grams
