Question

A cubical block of wood of length 5cm is kept on a table top. The density of the block is 800kg/m2 and g=9.8m/s2. Find the pressure exerted by the wooden block on the table top.

Solution

First we find mass (m).
density(d)=massvolume
800=m125cm3=m125×106m3
m=(800×125×106)kg=0.1kg
Now, pressure (P)=FA=mgA=(0.1×9.8)N5cm×5cm
=(0.1×9.8)N0.05m×0.05m=292N/m2=292Pa.
