The correct option is A backward on the front wheel while forward on rear wheel.
We know that friction opposes relative motion between surfaces.
When pedalling a cycle, the rear wheel translates forward, which causes the point of contact of the wheel to move backwards and hence, friction force on the rear wheel acts forward.
The forward translation motion of the rear wheel makes the front wheel move forward as well on its point of contact, causing a backwards friction force to act on the front wheel.
