A cylinder and a cone have equal radii of their bases and equal heights. Show that their volumes are in the ratio 3:1.

Let r be the radius and h be the height of a cylinder and a cone,then

Volume of cylinder=$\pi r^{2}h$

and volume of cone=$\frac{1}{3}\pi r^{2}h$

$\therefore Ratiobetweenthevolumes=\pi r^{2}h:\frac{1}{3}\pi r^{2}h=1:\frac{1}{3}=3:1$
