Solution

(a) Reflection of light from a plane mirror.

  1. Plane mirror: A plane mirror is any mirror with a flat reflective surface.
  2. Incident ray: The ray which strikes(falls) on the surface is an incident ray.
  3. Reflected ray: The reflected ray is the ray that we get after reflection.
  4. Point of incidence: The point on the surface on which the incident ray strike is the point of incidence. Point of incidence is a common point for the incident and reflected ray.
  5. Normal: Normal is perpendicular drawn from the point of incidence.
  6. Angle of incidence: The angle between the incident ray and the normal is called the angle of incidence.
  7. Angle of reflection: The angle between the reflected ray and the normal is called the angle of reflection.

(b) Laws of Reflection of Light

First law

The first law of reflection of light states that the angle of incidence is equal to the angle of reflection.

Second law

The incident ray, the normal, and the reflected ray, all lie in the same plane.
