Area $a=A^2$, Area $b=B^2$ and Area $c=C^2$

The area of land received by the first son is

Area $a+$ Area $b=A^2+B^2$

The area of land received by second son is

Area $c=C^2$

By applying Pythagoras Theorem in the given figure,

$A^2+B^2=C^2$

So, area was equally divided.
