A glass tumbler containing hot water is kept in the freezer compartment of a refrigerator whose temperature is maintained at < 0 degree celcius. If you could measure the temperature of the content of the tumbler , which of the following graphs below correctly represents the change in its temperature as a function of its time?

Figure C correctly represents the change in temperature as a function of its time. The reason being , a large quantity of heat needs to be removed from the tumbler containing hot water to bring it down to 0 degree celcius. Again over a factor of time, energy is liberated through the latent heat of solidification process when the liquid at zero degree celcius begins to change into a solid at zero degree celcius.It is in this phase the temperature time graph overlaps the X axis.

From the figure it is clear that the vessel with the largest surface area cools the fastest.So the right answer will be A and C as both have large exposed surfaces with equal volumes of water.
