A heater is designed to operate with a power of 100w on 100v line.It is connected to resistance of 10Ω. what is power output of heater?

Solution

Given maximum power of the heater Pmax=100W
Voltage V=100V and resistance offered to the heater R1=10Ω and R2=10Ω
Now from figure we observe that both the resistors are connected in parallel, thus the equivalent resistance Req=R1R2R1+R2=5Ω
Also we know PowerP=VI -------(A)where V=voltage and I=current
Again V=IR
I=VR
Putting the value of I in A we get,
P=V2Req=100×1005=2000W
