Question

A hemispherical tank full of water is emptied by a pipe at the rate of 347 litres per second. How much time will it take to make the tank half-empty, if the tank is 3 m in diameter ?

Open in App
Solution

Radius of hemispherical tank = 32 m

Therefore,
Volume of the tank = 23×227×(32)3=9914 m3

Volume of the water to be emptied = 12×9914=9928 m3

=9900028 litres

Since, 257 litres of water is emptied in one second. Therefore,

Total time taken to empty the half tank, i.e., 9900028 litres of water

=9900028×725 seconds=9900028×725×160 minutes=16.5 minutes
