Question

A house has four tubelights, three fans and a television. Each tubelight draws 40 W. The fan draws 80 W and the television draws 100 W. On an average, all the tubelights are kept on for 5 hours, all fans for 12 hours and the television for 6 hours everyday. Find the cost of electric energy used in 30 days at the rate of Rs.3.00 per KWH

Energy consumed by 4 tubelights per day, Etubelight=(4)(40)(5)=800 WH
Energy consumed by 3 fans per day, Efan=(3)(80)(12)=2880 WH
Energy consumed by television per day, ETV=(100)(6)=600 WH
Total energy consumed per day, E=Etubelight+Efan+ETV
E=800+2880+600=4280 WH =4.280 KWH per day
Total energy consumed in 30 days, ET=30×4.280=128.4 KWH
Cost of electric energy =Rs. 3.00×128.4=Rs. 385.20
