Question

A man bought $$5$$ lemons for Rs.$$4$$ and sold $$3$$ of them for Rs.$$2$$. Find his gain or loss $$\%$$

A
gain by 1623%
loader
B
loss of 1623%
loader
C
gain by 1523%
loader
D
loss of 1523%
loader

Solution

The correct option is B loss of $$16\dfrac{2}{3}$$$$\%$$
$$C.P$$ of $$5$$ lemons $$=Rs.4$$
$$C.P$$ of $$1$$ lemon $$=\dfrac{4}{5}=Rs.0.8$$
$$S.P$$ of $$3$$ lemons $$=Rs.2$$
$$S.P$$ of $$1$$ lemon $$=\dfrac{2}{3}=Rs.0.667$$
Here, $$C.P$$ is greater than  $$S.P$$, so its a loss.
Therefore,
Loss $$=\dfrac{0.8-0.667}{0.8}\times 100$$
Loss =\dfrac{0.133}{0.8}\times 100$$
Loss $$=16.625\%$$
Loss $$=16\dfrac{2}{3}\%$$
