  1. Giving cold treatment
  2. Application of 2,4-D
  3. None of the above
  4. Spraying of gibberellin

Solution

The correct option is A Giving cold treatment
Cabbage is a biennial, dicotyledonous, vegetable plant. It belongs to the family Brassicaceae (mustard family).

2,4-D is a synthetic auxin, a type of plant growth regulator. Auxins help in initiating rooting in stem cuttings, flowering, preventing early fruit drop, etc. However, 2,4-D is extensively used to kill dicotyledonous weeds. It does not affect monocotyledons weeds. Hence, cabbage being a dicotyledonous plant will perish if applied with 2,4-D.

Gibberellin is a type of plant growth regulator. It helps in internode elongation, helps in breaking seed dormancy, helps in seed germination, improves the shapes of fruits, and promotes bolting (internode elongation before flowering). Spraying cabbage with gibberellin results in bolting which is undesirable.

Exposing the cabbage plant to cold temperatures results in accelerated flowering. This is a common practice employed for other biennial plants like sugarbeet, carrots as well.
