Let us consider a Cartesian plane thinking positive X-axis as East;negative one as West;positive Y-axis as North;negative as South.Now A is at origin.It moves towards positive x axis 1 Km;towards negative Y axis 5Km;2 Km towards positive X axis;9 Km towards positive Y axis.On the whole it will traveled 95=4 Km from origin vertically and 1+2=3 Km from origin horizontally.By using Pythagoras theorem we get hypotenuse 5 Km from the origin.
