Question

A manometer attached to flask contains with ammonia gas have no difference in mercury level initially as shown in diagram. After sparking into the flask, ammonia is partially dissociated as 2NH3(g)N2(g)+3H2(g) now it have difference of 6 cm in mercury level in two columns, what is partial pressure of H2(g)at equilibrium?

Solution

The correct option is C None of these
2NH3N2+3H2

internally pressure will 76 when it attains equilibrium pressure will be 762xx,3x

Total pressure 762x+x+3x

=76+2x

we can see that the increase in pressure of hydrogen in 76(46+2x=2x

given that different in mercury, the level is 6 cm

2x=6

x=3cm

Partial pressure of H2=3x
=3×3
=9 cm Hg
So option D is correct.
