A mixture of sugar and salt contains 30% sugar. Find the weight of salt in 20 kg of the mixture.
Given,
Percentage of sugar = 30%
Weight of mixture = 20 kg
Suppose, the weight of sugar is A kg.
Let us write in two forms, the ratio of the total weight of sugar to the total weight of mixture, obtain an equation and solve it.
Then, we have:
A20=30%
⇒A20=30100
⇒A20×20=30100×20
⇒A=6
Hence, the weight of sugar is 6 kg.
Now, the weight of salt = weight of mixture - weight of sugar
=20−6=14 kg
∴ The weight of salt is 14 kg.
