Question

A one litre glass flask contains some mercury. It is found that at different temperatures the volume of air inside the flask remains the same. If coefficient of linear expression of glass is 9×106 (°C)1 , while volume of expansion of mercury is 1.8×104 (°C)1Then the volume of mercury in this flask is (in cc)(volume of air remains same)

Solution

It is given that the volume of air in the flask remains the same. This means that the expansion in volume of the vessel is exactly equal to the volume expansion of mercury
