Question

A packet of sweets was distributed among $$20$$ children and each of them received $$ 4$$ sweets. How many sweets will each child get, if the number of children is reduced by $$4$$?


Solution

Let,
$$x_1 = 20$$ and $$y_1 = 4$$
$$x_2 = 16$$ and $$y_2 = ?$$

Since $$x$$  and  $$y$$  are in inverse proportion.
$$x_1y_1 = x_2y_2\\ \Rightarrow 20 \times 4 = 16 \times y_2$$
$$\Rightarrow y_2 = \dfrac{20 \times 4}{16}$$ 
$$\Rightarrow y_2= 5$$

$$\therefore$$ Each child will get $$5$$ sweets.
