Question

A patient in a hospital is given soup daily in a cylindrical bowl of diameter 7 cm. If the bowl is filled with soup to a height of 4 cm. how much soup the hospital has to prepare daily to serve 250 patients ?

Given that Diameter of a cylindrical bowl = 7cm.

Then the radius of the cylindrical bowl r = d/2

= 3.5 cm.


Given that height of the cylindrical bowl = 4cm.

the volume of the soup in each cylindrical bowl = πr2h

= 22/7 x (3.5)2x 4

= 22 x 3.5 x 0.5 x 4

= 154cm3


Then the volume of soup required to serve 250 patients = 250 x 154

= 38500cm3

= 38.5litres.
