Solution

The correct option is B 149
Given: A plano-convex lens, when silvered at its plane surface is equivalent to a concave mirror of focal length 28 cm. When its curved surface is silvered and the plane surface is not silvered, it is equivalent to a concave mirror of focal length 10 cm.

To find the refractive index of the material of the lens.
Solution:

Let fm be focal length of the curved silvered surface

Case (i): when it is a concave mirror of focal length 28cm

fm=

Hence 128=2f1+1fmf1=56....(i)

Case (ii): when it is a concave mirror of focal length 10 cm

Hence 110=2f1+1fm

Substituting the value of f1, we get

110=256+1fm1fm=1101281fm=2810280fm=28018=1409cm

Therefore, the radius of curvature, R=2fm=2×1409=2809cm

Now,

1f1=(μ1)1R

Substituting the respective values, we get

156=(μ1)12809μ1=2809×156μ=1+59=149

is the refractive index of the material of the lens.
