We know that the formula for disintegration after n half lives

NNo=(12)n

According to question it is given that No=320countspersecond and
N=40countspersecond

Hence, 40320=(12)n

18=(12)n

n=3

And , time t=n×t12 where t12 is the half life of the radio-active substance.
t12=tn and t=90min

Hence, half-life t12=30min
