A river 3 m deep and 40 m wide is flowing at the rate of 2 km per hour. How much water will fall into the sea in a minute?

Speed of water in a river = 2 km/hr

Length of flow of water in 1 minute

=2×100060=1003 m

Breadth of river (b) = 40 m

and depth (h) = 3 m

Volume of water = lbh=1003×40×3 m3=4000 m3

and volume in litres = 4000×1000 l

(1 m3=1000 litres)

=4000000 litres
