Question

A room is 6 m long, 4 m broad and 3 m high. Find the cost of laying tiles on its floor and four walls at the cost of Rs. 80/m$$^2$$.


Solution

Area $$= 2h(l + b)$$
We have, $$l = 6$$m; $$b = 4$$m; $$h = 3$$m
Therefore, Area $$= 2$$ x $$3$$ $$( 6 + 4)$$ = $$6( 10)= 60 m^2$$
Therefore, the area of four walls is $$60 m^2$$
Now, we have find the area of the floor $$= (l \times  b) = ( 6 \times 4) = 24m^2$$
Thus, area of floor + area of  $$4$$  walls$$=$$ $$60m^2$$ + $$24m^2$$
$$=84 m^2$$

Thus, the cost of laying tiles on its floor and its four walls at the rate of $$Rs. $$$$80/m^2$$
$$= 84 \times 80$$
$$= 6720 Rs$$.
