Question

A shopkeeper sold a mobile phone for Rs. 12000. Had he offered discount of 10% on the selling price, there would be a loss of 4%. What is the cost price of that Mobile phone?

Solution

Given : 10% of 12,000 = $$\frac{10}{100}\times 12000=1200$$
S.P = 12,000-10% of 12,000
=12,000-1200= 10,800
Loss = 4%
We know that CP= $$\frac{100}{(100- loss %)}\times 10800$$
$$=\frac{100}{(100-4)}\times 10800$$
$$=\frac{100}{96}\times 10800=11,250$$
$$\therefore $$ C.P = Rs 11,250
