Question

A solenoid of length 1.0 m radius 1 cm and total turns 1000 wound on it, carries a current of 5 A. Calculate the magnitude of the axial magnetic field inside the solenoid. If an electron was to move with a speed of 104 ms along the axis of this current carrying solenoid, what be the force experienced by this electron?

Solution

Magnetic field inside a solenoid,
B=μ0nI
n=Nl=1000 turns1.0 m=1000 turns/m
I=5A
B=(4π×107)×1000×5
=20×3.14×104 J=6.28×103 T, along the axis
Force experienced by electron
Fm=qvBsinθ
Here q=e,v=104 m/s,
θ= angle between v and B=0
Fm=evBsin0o=0 (zero)
